Provides therapy and wellness checks

Lourdes (Lou) Estrada is a social work intern for the FRWC.  She is working towards her licensed social worker degree and will graduate in May 2022.   She provides bilingual therapy utilizing CBT and EMDR as well as conducts wellness checks.  


Lou recently retired from the Carol Stream Police Department after a 28-year career.  Lou has served as a CST, Evidence Tech, Translator, Field Training Officer and Cultural Diversity Trainer.   Lou has provided Spanish translation and interview and interrogation services to field court, hospitals, and other local and state law enforcement agencies.

Lou has immediate family in the fire department and medical fields.   She brings an excellent knowledge of the first responder culture and a passion for supporting them in wellness.  Lou’s extensive experiences with First Responders help her connect with her clients in a genuine, committed, and supportive manner.  Lou is trained in and practices Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
