PTSD: Pre-event factors that increase your chance of developing symptoms

Did you know that there are pre-event factors that increase your chance for developing PTSD?  Studies show there are several factors such as previous exposure to trauma, genetics, being young, female, family instability, a history of familial psychological problems, multiple early losses, trouble with authority, absence of social support, early depression or anxiety symptoms, early substance use, ineffective coping skills.  These are good reasons to help our children/adolescents stay healthy and can help others understand why they might have been more susceptible to getting PTSD.
