INTRODUCTION

Audrey Scherer is a master’s-level counselor pursuing licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Illinois, and she is committed to delivering compassionate, trauma-informed care to individuals who have served their country and communities. Through her previous professional work and personal relationships, she has developed a strong understanding of the nuances of military culture and the unique stressors faced by this population, including the stigma and systemic barriers that can make seeking mental health care challenging. This perspective allows her to build trust quickly, tailor interventions effectively, and support clients in navigating their unique professional and personal contexts.

Audrey earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Colorado State University and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in clinical counseling, specializing in clinical mental health counseling. During her undergraduate training, Audrey completed an internship at North Range Behavioral Health in Greeley, Colorado, where she gained experience working with youth impacted by adverse childhood experiences and those involved in the juvenile justice system. During her graduate training, Audrey completed her practicum and internship at the Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In this position, she provided outpatient therapy to veterans, service members, and their family members.

In her clinical training, Audrey gained experience providing trauma-informed individual therapy, conducting diagnostic and risk assessments, and utilizing evidence-based interventions. She has received formal training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and the Unified Protocol (UP), with experience applying these approaches in a supervised clinical setting. She also draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and Motivational Interviewing. Additionally, she has training and experience administering clinical screening and rating scales. Audrey’s clinical experience includes working with concerns such as PTSD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance abuse, and those who have elevated risk.
