INTRODUCTION

Tim Cook is a retired police officer and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Tim does annual wellness visits and group debriefings.
Tim started in community mental health prior to becoming a police officer. He worked in Proviso Township starting in 1991 at Proviso Family Services as a crisis counselor and a therapist on an inpatient unit. He also answered the crisis hotline, working with clients in various stages of emotional distress.
Tim spent time as a supervisor at the Crisis Center for the Dupage County Health Department and at the Dupage County Regional Office of Education working with students with challenging behavioral concerns. He also served as the Security Director for a school district where he developed their first security procedures and security team as well as created and supervised a threat assessment team.
During his career as a police officer Tim worked as a Patrol Officer, Detective, a SRO and a Sergeant. He spent time supervising the police volunteers and was instrumental in securing the department’s first social worker. He volunteered for the Northern Illinois Critical Incident Stress Management Team leading debriefings with officers involved in critical incidents. Tim is pleased to see the change in the acceptance of law enforcement mental health and the availability of treatment options police officers have currently from the time he first started his police career over three decades ago.
