You are not alone!

You answer the calls that most people run from. You hold space for our communities during their hardest, most critical moments—but who holds space for you?
The weight of the badge, the shift work, and the cumulative stress of the job don't just disappear when you clock out. It is easy to feel isolated or believe you have to carry it all by yourself, but reaching out isn't a sign of weakness—it's a sign of resilience.
At First Responders Wellness Center (FRWC), you never have to explain the subculture or justify how the job affects you. Founded by Dr. Carrie Steiner—a former Chicago police officer turned clinical psychologist—our practice was built specifically to be a sanctuary for police, fire, EMS, dispatchers, corrections, veterans, and their families.
100% of our clinical staff consists of former or current first responders, veterans, or clinicians with direct first responder family experience. We do not carry a civilian caseload, meaning you will never run into someone you served or encountered on duty in our waiting room.
Whether you are looking for proactive stress management, processing a high-stress incident, or seeking support for your marriage and family, we are here to support you.
Our Specialized Services Include:
Trauma-Informed Therapy: Evidence-based treatments including EMDR, CPT, and CBT tailored for PTSD, anxiety, and operational stress.
Proactive Annual Wellness Visits: Confidential, individual check-ins focused on building resilience (completely separate from fitness-for-duty evaluations).
Peer Support & Critical Incident Debriefing: Immediate, understanding support following critical events.
Family & Marriage Support: Dedicated care for spouses and partners navigating the unique impact of public safety life at home.
You don't have to carry the weight alone. Take the step to keep yourself grounded, healthy, and supported both on and off duty.
